In today's age, the word 'Intern' often has a negative connotation to it. It often means come and do all the odd jobs that our staff do not want to do, but we see things very differently.
Northern Lakes Impact Center shares its home with Crescent Lake Bible Camp, a non-denominational Christian camp, located on 56 acres on Crescent Lake, in Rhinelander, Wisconsin. Northern Lakes Impact Center has been operating here for 10 years, and in partnership with Crescent Lake Bible Camp, runs our internship program called Elevate.
The Elevate program is a nine-month gap year program for young adults wanting a year between high school and college, or candidates interested in pursuing a new career path in outdoor education or ministry. Training and pouring into our interns is one of our main focuses, as from there, all of our other programs flow out. We feed into our interns so that they can feed into our guest groups and participants. They serve as the front line in every aspect of our operations including cabin cleaning, running program areas for retreat groups, teaching outdoor education classes, and helping with maintenance projects. In addition, our Elevate students are mentored towards maturity through Bible study, leadership classes, life skills classes, "The Trek Curriculum", and more.
